DENNISTOUN NEW TRAIDCRAFT FAQs

Set out below are some of the most frequently asked questions to let you know a little more.

SOME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q....Is this just another appeal for the third world.

A....Traidcraft is not another charity but a different way of doing business, we’re not asking people to give more money, but to spend the money they have differently.

Q....Isn’t it more expensive buying this fair trade stuff.

A....Please try some small changes - like changing to a fairly traded tea if you don’t like the coffee, buy a few annual presents from us or switch to one regular purchase like tea or honey.

Q....Will fairer trade really change anything.

A....Fair trade has already changed things for millions of people in the developing world, it is bigger than Traidcraft alone, it’s a growing movement across Europe.

Q....Won’t it affect jobs here if I buy third world things.

A....If the third world was wealthier it would provide a market for goods and services from rich countries, meaning more not less jobs.

Q....Doesn’t the multi-nationals control world trade anyway.

A....We can put pressure on the retailer end of multi-nationals by making it clear that customers want ethical products, it can work, look at the green movement, but changes take time, Traidcraft is about helping producers now.

Q....Aren’t they just a load of small co-operatives.

A....Small scale doesn’t mean fewer jobs, the handicrafts and farming industries provide employment for millions of people in developing countries.
